  2. Welcome to the Forte Agent v.99c release!

  4. Agent .99c is a pre-release version of Forte's commercial newsreader, 
  5. Agent.  Agent .99c includes all of the features and functionality of 
  6. Free Agent 1.0 plus a multilingual spelling checker, basic email 
  7. functionality, folders and sorting.

  11. If you are upgrading from a previous version of Free Agent or Agent:

  13. -  You should backup your existing Agent databases.

  15. -  You can then unzip the ZIP file directly into the directory where
  16.    your previous copy of AGENT.EXE lives.

  21. 16-bit Agent requires the following:

  23. 1. Windows 3.1 or greater, or Windows NT 3.5.

  25. 2. A TCP/IP driver that supports winsock 1.1 applications.

  28.    - Trumpet Winsock 2.0B and 2.1B
  29.    - NetManage Chameleon 3.11N
  30.    - Microsoft TCP/IP-32 for Windows for Workgroups 3.11

  32.    - Microsoft Windows 95 with Microsoft TCP/IP
  33.    - Spry dialer (Internet in a Box; CompuServe)
  34.    - NetCruiser 1.6 or greater

  37.    For posting email, access to an SMTP mail server.
  38.    For receiving mail, access to a POP3 mail server or SMTP.

  43. Follow these steps to install Agent:
  44.  
  45. 1. Create a directory on your hard disk for Agent and copy the
  46.    contents of this ZIP file to the directory.
  47.  
  48. 2. Make an icon for Agent in Program Manager.  To do this, choose New
  49.    from the File menu and select the Program Item option.  Fill in
  50.    the Program Item Properties dialog box as shown in the example
  51.    below:

  53.       Description:       Agent
  54.       Command Line:      c:\agent\agent.exe
  55.       Working Directory: c:\agent
  56.  
  57. 3. The first time you run Agent, it will prompt you for the
  58.    information it needs to operate.

  60. 4. Once you have supplied the necessary setup information and Agent
  61.    is operational, press F1 to display the online help.
